How do you buy a small amount at an unlabelled Guangzhou market stall?

I only need enough produce for one recipe, but there is no price label and I cannot tell whether the stall sells by weight, piece or bundle. I can point to the vegetables, though that does not tell the seller how much I need. What is a polite way to ask for a small amount without ending up with a family-sized bag?
