How early would you get there for a first group activity in Tokmok?

The organiser said beginners can borrow the basic equipment, but I still do not know whether people arrive already paired or sort teams at the venue. I would rather be ten minutes early than walk in while the first round is starting. Is there anything a newcomer normally brings?
