How do you get a clear ingredient answer at a crowded Hangzhou counter?

I need to know whether one ingredient is used in a dish before the vendor starts serving it. The counter is busy, and asking whether the dish is generally mild will not answer that. I can show a translated word on my phone, but what is the clearest way to get a yes-or-no answer without holding up the queue?
